about Blue Valentine

You & Me by Penny and the Quarters

Ever since I saw Drive last weekend, I have been on a Ryan Gosling film binge. This makes me giggly and proud because I have been watching him since Young Hercules The MMC, and it never dawned on me to pay attention to him as an actor. It never registered that he was a good actor. Until recently, I couldn't recall in which films I'd seen him.

I have just completed Blue Valentine and I now realize that his utter forgettableness is one of his greatest gifts as an actor. Although I always seem to forget Ryan Gosling, the characters he performs become so familiar. He disappears into them. They are like a childhood friend you once knew long ago. They moved away; you wish you kept in touch.

I whole heartedly recommend the following films, written for you in the order I viewed them:

Lars and the Real Girl (2007)
Directed by Craig Gillespie
Written by Nancy Oliver

Drive (2011)
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn

The Notebook (2004)
Directed by Nick Cassavetes

Blue Valentine (2010)
Directed by Derek Cianfrance

After watching Blue Valentine, I recommend watching the Charlie Rose interview.

American Analog Set - Punk as Fuck

The US is a truly beautiful place. I had the pleasure of going on a beautiful hike while discovering plants.  It made me feel punk as fuck.
